Setup rates using the available options in RMS.

    Decision Tree

Rates determine the pricing used on a reservation and can be setup to calculate based on a variety of factors including day of the week, number of guests or length of stay.

Additional rate options include dynamic pricing adjustments based on occupancy and time, packages, additional guests and derived rates.

    Direct Rates

Direct Rates can be used on the RMS IBE, in-house and for a select few Online Travel Agents.

Pricing formats include per person, per day, per night or per hour as well as by night of the week or length of stay.

Direct Rates are determined by selecting the 'Direct' Rate Structure on the Rate Type and Rate Table.

In previous versions of RMS Direct Rates were referred to as 'Traditional Rates'.

    Base Rate

The Base Rate includes four components that establish what the charge description is, when it is available and how much to charge.

Direct Rates can be used to create multiple combinations for the rack or best available rate as well as seasonal, long term and promotional rates.

Before creating rates in RMS for the first time, review the following information.

To make a rate available for use a Rate Lookup must be created that links together a Rate Type, Rate Period and Rate Table.

    Rate Type

The Rate Type is the charge description or charge type that identifies a particular set of pricing.

Rate Types become available for selection on a reservation once they have been linked in a Rate Lookup to a Rate Period and Rate Table.

Setup a Rate Period, Rate Table and Rate Lookup to make this Rate Type available for selection on a reservation or use the New Rate Wizard for guided rate setup in RMS.

    Rate Period

The Rate Period determines the date range a set of pricing is applicable to.

Rate Periods can be setup to reflect the changeover in a pricing structure including Annual, Peak, Off Peak and Shoulder seasons as well as smaller overlapping Holiday Seasons.

Setup a Rate Type, Rate Table and Rate Lookup to make the Rate Type available for selection on a reservation during the dates selected on this Rate Period or use the New Rate Wizard for guided rate setup in RMS.

    Rate Table

The Rate Table determines the prices to be used when calculating the rates in RMS.

Below are the setup articles for each type of Rate Table available when using Direct Rates in RMS.

The Based On and Format selected will determine the frequency and what passage of time or other factor is used when calculating the price on the reservation.

Rate Tables for past seasons can be set inactive once no longer required and a new Rate Table setup for future seasons.

This method ensures historical accuracy and ensures the correct rate is applied to future reservations without having any impact on past reservations or reporting accuracy.

Any changes to the pricing on an existing Rate Table will apply to all Rate Lookups with that Rate Table selected.

Changes made will be reflected on new reservations or existing reservations after a rate recalculation.

Additional Rate Table options can be found under the 'Extras' section of this article.

    Rate Lookup

The Rate Lookup is the linking component that RMS uses to know which combination of Rate Type and Rate Table to use during any Rate Period.

Without a Rate Lookup each Rate Type, Rate Period and Rate Table will be disconnected and not available for use on reservations.

Only Rate Types and Rate Tables with a matching Rate Structure can be connected in a Rate Lookup.

OTA Rates are determined by selecting the 'OTA' Rate Structure on the Rate Type and Rate Table.
